Il termine \u201cviaggio\u201d pu\u00f2 avere origine dalla Vecchia parola francese che sta per partorire.[3] Secondo il dizionario Merriam Webster, il primo uso della parola viaggio \u00e8 stato nel 14 \u00b0 secolo. Essa afferma inoltre che la parola deriva dall&#039;inglese Medio travailen, travelen (che significa di tormento, di lavoro, lottare, di viaggio) e in precedenza dal francese Antico travailler (il che significa che a lavorare strenuamente, fatica).<\/p>\n<p>In inglese abbiamo ancora occasionalmente utilizzare le parole di travaglio e travaglio, il che significa che la lotta. Secondo Simon Winchester nel suo libro &#034; Il Migliore dei Viaggiatori Racconti (2004), le parole di viaggi e travaglio sia la condivisione di una pi\u00f9 antica radice: un Romano, strumento di tortura chiamato tripalium (in latino significa \u201ctre pali\u201d, come in impalare).
