Der Begriff &#034;Reise&#034; stammt aus dem Alten Franz\u00f6sisch Wort travail.[3] Laut dem Merriam-Webster-W\u00f6rterbuch, die erste bekannte Verwendung des Wortes Reise war im 14ten Jahrhundert. Es zeigt auch, dass das Wort kommt aus dem Mittleren Englisch travailen, travelen (was bedeutet, zu qu\u00e4len, Arbeit, Streben, journey) und fr\u00fcher aus dem Alt-franz\u00f6sischen travailler (was bedeutet, zu arbeiten energisch, M\u00fche).<\/p>\n<p>In Englisch haben wir noch gelegentlich die Worte travail und M\u00fchen, was bedeutet Kampf. Nach Simon Winchester in seinem Buch Die Besten Travelers&#039; Tales (2004), die die W\u00f6rter Reisen und travail beide noch mehr alte Wurzel: ein r\u00f6misches Folterinstrument namens tripalium (in Latein bedeutet es &#034;drei Anteile&#034;, wie in Aufspie\u00dfen). Diese Verkn\u00fcpfung spiegelt die extreme Schwierigkeit des Reisens in der
